Aisling is a thirty-something mum, crafter, entrepreneur, sci fi fanatic, guitar player, quilter and computer geek!

Biography

In my old life I worked in technology for 8 years - surrounded by the opposite sex and using only the left hand side of my brain each day!! I decided to set up Cara Craft Supplies after I had been making and selling cards into about 30 shops and was hugely frustrated by the lack of supplies in Ireland. I was importing everything, and paying a fortune in shipping at the same time.

I decided to set up a site of my own - the first of its kind in Ireland. The site launched in September 2004 - the same month I gave birth to my little boy. It was a crazy time.

6 months later I set up our forum - which now has over 110,000 posts and is busier than ever, and the site continues to thrive.

12 months after setting up www.craftsupplies.ie I had an idea for a wedding invitation site. We had lots of brides asking us for help in making their own invitations and it struck me that it would be great if there was a site that made it really *easy* for brides to make their own invitations - not requiring them to be crafty, but to ensure they had a professional looking end-product and saved lots of £££ into the bargain!! 3 months later www.diywedding.ie was born and in its first year took approx. 20% of the wedding stationery market in Ireland. We have over 100 different wedding invitation kits - all completely customisable, and now sell a huge range of wedding accessories too.

I now have a great team consisting of Di, Agnes and Ger and we recently launched our DIYWedding site into the UK - it's called www.weddingdiy.co.uk. It's growing and now we're looking at Poland!! It's all go.

Working in crafts is very different to working in computers. But my goodness. It's so much fun. When a delivery of new stock comes into the office, we all "keep it" until we have the main work done and then squeal over the boxes as we see what's inside. Definitely not too much testosterone in our office (which, being a single thirty-something, I do miss ;)) but it's a happy place to be and we all have fun.

Our goal is always to be as helpful, practical and innovative as possible when designing our products and dealing with our customers. If you call our phone, a human being will always answer.

If you have any suggestions for the sites or products, do let us know. Here's our contact details for the various sites - we look forward to hearing from you!!
